Magnesium sulphate is a tiny white crystal that is used to fertilise plants. Magnesium sulphate fertiliser has been used successfully in a variety of countries and areas, particularly in the rubber tree, oil palm, tobacco plant, orange and tangerine plant, and grassland.
Epsom salts are one of the most efficient magnesium producers. Epsom salt is made in India in two ways: I by sulphuric acid treatment of magnesium carbonate or hydroxide, and (ii) from the ‘Sels’ mixture obtained after the production of common salt from sea water.Epsom salts have been used to treat magnesium insufficiency in a variety of fruit and vegetable species around the world. The addition of magnesium fertiliser in the form of MgSO4.7H20 enhanced guinea grass dry matter production, crude protein content, and magnesium uptake.
